About the Author
Will Shortz has been the crossword puzzle editor of The New York Times since 1993. He is also the puzzlemaster on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday and is founder and director of the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. He has edited countless books of crossword puzzles, Sudoku, KenKen, and all manner of brain-busters.
Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon are full-time freelance puzzle writers. They live in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Great puzzles!

Another excellent book in the New York Times acrostic series. These originally appeared in the Times between June 2003 and May 2005. So if you were doing the puzzles then they may be old ones for you. Cox and Rathvon are terrific puzzle creators, surpassing Thomas Middleton, in my view. Their puzzles are subtly thematic, which adds a good deal to the enjoyment of solving.

Obscure puzzles

I really wanted to enjoy this puzzle book. I was super excited for it to come since I loved acrostics I've done in the past. However these I REALLY didn't like. I felt the hints were really obscure at times and the quotes that the puzzles where supposed to make in the end didn't make much sense due to the fact there were a lot of "…" within the quote. For example "Camp mocks bad taste; kitsch exploits it… Mae West, whose… provocative delivery, eye-rolling, lip-pursing, and pelvic tics parody the conventional invitation to dalliance, is never out of control and is camp, pure and simple."
I don't see how someone who is unfamiliar with the quote could ever figure most of that out… and when I do acrostics I like going back and forth from the hints to the quote to see if I can use the quote to figure out the answer to the hints. That only works if the quote is something coherent when you read it… maybe I'll try going back to the book someday and figure out some more of the puzzles but right now I just feel sad it wasn't what I expected.

Love acrostics

I'm starting to like acrostics better than crosswords. I can see myself getting better at it and it makes me feel so smart!
