About the Author
TETSUYA MIYAMOTO, the creator of KenKen, is a math teacher who runs a unique mathematics class for grade school children in Japan where he practices "The Art of Teaching Without Teaching." His teaching method and use of KenKen in his classroom has proven extremely successful. His students regularly go on to be accepted at the most prestigious schools in Tokyo.
WILL SHORTZ has been the crossword puzzle editor of The New York Times since 1993. He is also the puzzlemaster on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday and is founder and director of the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. He has edited countless books of crossword puzzles, Sudoku, KenKen, and all manner of brain-busters.

Too many 4x4

Half of this book is 4x4 kenken that are way too easy. If you only want 6x6 or larger I suggest getting another book. New York Times is great, though.

KenKen is My New Puzzle Addiction

KenKen is the brainchild of Tetsuya Miyamoto a Japanese math teacher who used these puzzles as a teaching tool in his classroom so his students would become well versed in the areas of mathematics', logical and critical thinking.
After I was introduced to Will Shortz Sudoku books I really found them challenging and exciting but was looking for a change of pace and that was when I discovered Ken Ken.
The book of puzzles contains two different sized grids, the first half of it starts with puzzles on a 5 x 5 grid pattern, the remaining 150 puzzles gradually get more difficult. The remaining 150 puzzles in the book are solved on grids that are 7 x 7.
Although I am pretty experienced with Sudoku and a newcomer to Kenken. Each sized grid offers puzzles that are classified as moderate, the next puzzles are labeled demanding and the hardest puzzles are considered very challenging.
The pages are printed back to back on paper with a similar consistency as a newspaper I had to be careful with the pen I used so it would not come thru to the other side of the page. I found the mechanical pencils didn't show up well so was comfortable with a regular pen which is the method I preferred.
Since I write larger then many people I enjoyed having puzzles that provided me with ample sized grid. I normally do most of my calculations in my head each page, however offered plenty of room for me to figure out the solutions to the KenKen grid.
Both sized puzzles did not offer much room in the margins but all of the puzzles offered lots of space on the page below if you need to jot down notes or do any arithmetic.
Sudoku lovers who are looking for a new challenge should enjoy this KenKen book. The result of the team of (Will) Shortz and (Tetsuya) Miyamoto has produced a winning combination.

I highly recommend this book for beginners, from seniors to youth, anyone who enjoys math and puzzles. I did the NY Times' KenKen for a year prior to playing it in print. I had several surgeries this year and the simple puzzles in this book allowed me to continue to play a game I love while struggling with the fog of recovery. This is definitely a book FOR BEGINNERS, the "hard" puzzles at the end of the book are only hard compared to the puzzles at the beginning of the book. Again, KenKen is for everyone. From youths who want a fun way to learn math to seniors who need to keep their mind sharp, KenKen is answer!
