About the Author
ELLA MONROE is the pseudonym for the Washington, D.C. based writing duo, Maz Rauber and Amy Reingold. Rauber is a former reporter who covered national politics―and all its scandals―for the New York Post. Reingold is a writer, a textile artist, and a classically-trained Cordon Bleu chef. Raised in small-town Illinois, she has lived in London and Hong Kong. They both live in Washington, D.C.

Cute story, needed more background information

First things first I received this book from goodreads giveaways. This does not effect my review in any way. :)
I received an advance readers copy (ARC) of Truth or Dare by Ella Monroe. I'm not sure I realized it was the 3rd book in the series when I entered to win... Maybe I did, and figured it'd be ok as a stand alone book in the series...it was okay, but that was about it (as for standing on it's own). I would definitely suggest reading the first 2 before reading this one, it would make your enjoyment in the book much better. Here's why:
there are a LOT of characters in this book, but the main characters are:
Jackie - the daughter of the presidents best friend. She calls the president 'aunt' which shows how close the families are.
Laura Beth - the daughter of a D.C. socialite, who is engaged to a senator...and the senator is running in the next presidential election.
and Lettie - a girl who goes to the privileged private school with Jackie and Laura Beth.
This is a story of these girls, their close friends, family and enemies. In this book, they are trying to get over the betrayal and death of one of their closest friends, Taylor. There is conflict, back stabbing, scandal and friends lost and found in this story. If this was a stand alone book, I would have given it a 2 star rating, mainly because you meet almost ALL of the characters (main and otherwise) in the first few chapters, and it's very hard to keep them all straight. There were a lot of times where I had to go back and reread parts of the book to figure out who was who, who was dating who, and who was related to who. There were a lot of conflicts and situations each character had to deal with, that it made the whole book feel very jumbled, and again, I'd have to go back and reread trying to figure out which conflicts went with which character as well.
Because it is the 3rd book in a series, I am giving it 3 stars, because the characters would have been easier to follow if I'd learned about them slowly from the start, I'd know the back story a lot better than the bits and pieces I had to pick up and go back and reread to piece together. I liked the book for the most part, it did keep me engaged, but because it was so busy, it did irritate me quite a bit to have to go back to the beginning of the book trying to find something I thought I read about that could help me understand the situation at had a bit better.
Since I received an ARC some of these things may change in the final publication, so I would definitely say it's worth giving it a chance. I believe it is worth the read, and I'm thinking about reading the first two, so I don't want to say don't read it, but I would have to say, again, it would definitely benefit you to read the first 2 books in the series before reading this one.

Note: I haven’t read the other books in the series because I didn’t know this was the 3rd book in a series when I requested it because I am weird. Also this makes no sense but it's all good
This is a story of these girls, their close friends, family and enemies. In this book, they are trying to get over the betrayal and death of one of their closest friends, Taylor. Secrets and Mean Girls on Capital Hill

Truth or Dare is a brilliant addition to the Capital Girls series. Things are getting more complicated for the Capital Girls. Laura Beth's stepdad-to-be is ramping up his political campaign and putting a wedge inbetween LB and her BFF Jackie. But Jackie has more on her mind than just politics. She's caught in a love triangle between the First Sons not to mention her stalker still hasn't been caught. Lettie is trying to adjust to life with her parents living in a different country and her being taken in by a celebrity blogger who is using Lettie's White House connections to further her career.
Things just keep getting more and more entangled as the girls mourn Taylor's death whilst at the same time trying to get to the bottom of just what happened on the night of the car accident.
I loved how this book managed to combine so many different storylines and dramas whilst at the same time successfully weaving them together. All the girls are managing to grow - all three seemed more mature than in the previous book - but still keeping their teenage sensibilities Laura Beth is learning that maybe her dreams of the spotlight aren't what they're cracked up to be. Jackie has a personal dilemma to sort out and doesn't know if she should follow her heart or keep her head in the political game. And Lettie is the sweet girl who balances out her larger than life friends.
I recommend this series for fans of Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl who love Mean Girls with a political twist.
