Delicious & Delightful

It might sound odd to call a book Delicious and Delightful but for this book it is the perfect description. This book tells a great story about perserverance, a loving family and following your dream. The characters are so vivid and entertaining I found myself wanting to head over to their shop just hoping to meet them. Be forewarned though -- have some good chocolate on hand while reading this book or you will wish that you had!

Heart-warming, engaging, funny...

I was lucky to get my hands on an advance copy of this book and I loved it! It's a delightful, engaging story. The Park sister's obvious affection for each other and their customers comes through loud and clear, and I found myself unwilling to put the book down. They do a beautiful job of weaving together their shared experience of family, opening a business and worshipping chocolate into a readable and meaningful tome.
The descriptions of chocolate that run throughout the book will have your mouth watering, and you'll be rewarded at the end with their recipe for their famous house truffle, which is worth the purchase price of the book by itself. I highly recommend that you NOT read the book unless you have a box of chocolates sitting next to you--you will feel bereft if you can't indulge after reading the descriptions of the chocolate aromas that fill their store. Make sure it's good chocolate! Your average candy bar that you pick up at the convenience store is not worthy of this book.
If I were describing this book to a friend, I would say that it's definitely worth reading. It's meaningful and written with a light, deft hand, and you'll be happier for having read it. And if parts of it don't make you laugh out loud, then you have no heart. I'd recommend it for a beach read, a lighthearted book club, and anyone who loves chocolate!

Laugh, cry and crave chocolate.....

I picked up CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE, because I loved the cover. The colors, the French flair. Sounds superficial, but let me tell you, there's nothing superficial about this memoir that opens up with a heartfelt prologue detailing Frances and Ginger Park's last day in their beloved chocolate shop in the heart of Washington, DC. After twenty-five years, the Parks have lost their lease and are faced with the burning question - could they start over in a new location? Their loss and questionable future will pull you into this deliciously spun memoir. It's only fitting that Chapter One opens `on a bitterly cold day' in 1984 on their first day of business. The book comes full circle with a story for the ages, one that boasts a host of hilarious customer characters, a little romance, business blunders and victories, and chocolate descriptions so sinfully rich they'll leave you salivating. But above all, this book (as the subtitle indicates) is the story of two sisters who would do anything - open a chocolate shop! - to stay together after the sudden death of their father. CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE will make you laugh, cry, and crave chocolate all in one bite.
